Percentages come up constantly — figuring out a tip at a restaurant, understanding a sale price, checking how much your electricity bill went up, or converting a test score into a grade. Most of these feel simple in principle but turn fuzzy the moment actual numbers are involved.

This calculator covers the three questions people actually ask. First: "what percent is X of Y?" — useful for grades, stats, and proportions. Second: "what is X% of Y?" — needed for calculating discounts, tax amounts, and tips. Third: "by what percentage did something change?" — essential for comparing prices, tracking progress, or analyzing any before-and-after situation.

The percentage change calculation is where most people get tripped up. A $10 price drop on a $25 item is a 40% discount — that's significant. The same $10 drop on a $300 item is only 3.3% — barely worth noting. Context only becomes clear once you run the actual percentage.

Everyday examples: Calculating 20% off a $79 coat. Figuring out you scored 82% on a 50-question quiz where you got 41 right. Seeing that your rent went up 8.5% year over year. Splitting a $134 dinner bill and adding 18% gratuity.

What it calculates

  • What percent one number is of another
  • A percentage of any number (X% of Y)
  • Percentage increase or decrease between values
  • Discounts and final prices after markdown
  • Tax and tip amounts for any rate
  • Decimal results rounded to any precision

Fractions are unavoidable. Recipes call for 2/3 cup of flour. Lumber comes in measurements like 3/8 inches. School math is full of them. And yet adding 5/6 and 3/8 in your head requires finding a common denominator — a step most people skip and then get wrong.

This calculator handles all four arithmetic operations on fractions: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. It automatically simplifies results, so you get 3/4 rather than 12/16. It also converts freely between fractions and decimals, which helps whenever you're working across two systems — like a recipe in fractions measured with a digital scale showing decimals.

The comparison feature solves a question that appears deceptively simple: which is bigger, 4/7 or 5/9? Without converting both to decimals or finding a common denominator, it's not obvious. The calculator handles that comparison immediately and shows both decimal equivalents so you can see exactly how close or far apart they are.

Where fractions actually appear: Baking (1/4 teaspoon, 2/3 cup), woodworking and DIY (3/16 inch drill bits, 5/8 inch boards), school homework, splitting things unevenly between people, and reading nutritional labels showing fractional serving sizes.

What it calculates

  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of fractions
  • Automatic simplification to lowest terms
  • Fraction-to-decimal and decimal-to-fraction conversion
  • Comparison of two fractions with clear result
  • Mixed numbers and improper fractions supported
  • Step-by-step breakdown of each operation

Everyone knows their age in years. But a surprising number of situations call for more precision than that. How many months old is a newborn? Will someone be 18 by a specific enrollment deadline? How many days until a milestone birthday? These questions require actual date arithmetic, not a rough mental estimate.

This calculator takes any birth date and any target date — today, a future date, or a past one — and returns the exact age in years, months, and days. It handles leap years and uneven month lengths automatically, so February birthdays and end-of-month dates come out correctly every time.

The "age on a specific date" feature is particularly useful for eligibility checks. School enrollment cutoffs, minimum age requirements for legal contracts, retirement planning, or simply knowing how old someone will be at a future event — all of these need a precise answer, not an estimate.

Who reaches for this tool: Parents tracking a baby's development in months rather than years. People planning milestone birthday celebrations. HR departments checking retirement eligibility. Anyone dealing with a legal or official process that has a minimum age requirement tied to a specific calendar date.

What it calculates

  • Exact age in years, months, and days
  • Age as of any past or future date
  • Days and weeks until the next birthday
  • Correct handling of leap years
  • Supports any date from 1900 onward
  • Total age expressed in days and weeks

Calendar math looks easy and then trips you up the moment months have different lengths. How many days are there between April 18 and September 3? If a contract runs for 90 days starting July 1, what's the end date? If you clocked in at 7:45 AM and left at 4:20 PM, how long was your shift?

The Date Calculator handles two things: adding or subtracting a number of days, weeks, months, or years from any starting date (giving you an end date), and finding how many days separate two specific dates. Both directions of the same problem, covered cleanly.

The Time Calculator works the same way but for hours and minutes. Add up a week of work hours for a timesheet. Figure out when to start a recipe so it's ready for a specific mealtime. Calculate how long a flight or drive actually took. It reads AM/PM or 24-hour format and handles midnight crossings without confusion.

Where this saves time: Freelancers billing by the hour, project managers setting delivery dates, anyone tracking a subscription or warranty from a purchase date, parents calculating pregnancy due dates (40 weeks from the last period), and anyone making travel connections that require tight time math.

What it calculates

  • Add or subtract any time span from a given date
  • Exact number of days between two dates
  • Sum or difference of hours and minutes
  • Duration between two times of day
  • AM/PM and 24-hour clock both supported
  • Month and year boundary handling built in

Writing numbers as words is a requirement that shows up in specific but important situations. Checks must have the dollar amount written out in full — it's a fraud-prevention standard that banks enforce. Legal documents and contracts routinely spell out figures to prevent any ambiguity or unauthorized alteration. Certain government forms require the same.

This converter turns any number into properly formatted written English. Type in 4,875 and get "four thousand eight hundred seventy-five." Type in 2,000,000 and get "two million." It handles large numbers accurately without losing track of the hierarchy between millions, thousands, and hundreds.

The currency mode handles the specific format that checks and financial documents require. Enter $3,420.75 and it returns "three thousand four hundred twenty dollars and seventy-five cents" — the exact phrasing banks and accountants expect. No guessing whether to hyphenate, no uncertainty about where "and" goes.

Regular users of this tool: Small business owners writing checks to vendors or contractors. Freelancers creating invoices with written amounts. Anyone filling out a formal document that requires spelled-out numbers. Students and writers who need to follow the style rule that numbers under a certain value should be written as words.

What it calculates

  • Converts any number to written English
  • Decimal amounts written as fractions in words
  • Currency format for checks and formal documents
  • Handles numbers into the billions
  • Correct hyphenation and spacing throughout
  • American and British English both available

Almost every piece of writing exists inside a constraint. Scholarship essays have hard word limits. Résumés should stay to one or two pages. Social media platforms cut you off at a character limit. Job application forms allow only a set number of words per answer. Knowing exactly where you stand matters.

This tool counts words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, and paragraphs as you type or paste — no button to click, no page to refresh. The counts update live. If you're targeting 800 words for a blog post or staying under 280 characters for a tweet, you see your real-time progress without any extra steps.

Character count serves a different purpose than word count. A sentence can be six words or sixty characters depending on the words chosen. For SMS messages, Instagram bios, Twitter posts, and meta descriptions, character count is the relevant limit — and this tool shows both, so you never have to choose which one to watch.

Reading time estimate: The tool also gives an approximate reading time based on average adult reading speed. Useful for presentations, landing page copy, and email newsletters where knowing how long something takes to read helps you decide whether to cut or expand.

What it calculates

  • Word, character, sentence, and paragraph counts
  • Character count with and without spaces
  • Estimated reading and speaking time
  • Live updates as you type or paste
  • Keyword frequency and density analysis
  • Compatible with any language or script

Built around tasks that interrupt your actual day

Most calculators are built for students solving textbook problems. These tools are built for the moments that actually interrupt your day — a discount you want to verify before checkout, a work hours total you need for Friday's timesheet, a word count that has to hit a specific target before you submit.

"What percent is this discount, really?" — Percentage Calculator gives you the actual number instantly.
"Which fraction is bigger for this recipe?" — Fraction Calculator compares them and shows both decimals.
"Will she be 18 by the enrollment deadline?" — Age Calculator gives the exact date answer.
"What date is 90 days from the contract signing?" — Date Calculator counts forward precisely.
"How do I write this amount for a check?" — Number to Words formats it exactly as banks require.

No account creation. No email required. No features locked behind a paywall. Every tool loads instantly and gives a direct answer with working shown. That's it.

Three things worth knowing before you calculate

Get more reliable results from every tool with these quick checks.

1

Percentage change goes both ways

A 50% increase followed by a 50% decrease doesn't return you to the starting number — it leaves you 25% short. A $100 item that rises to $150 then drops 50% ends at $75, not $100. The percentage change calculator makes this asymmetry visible immediately.

2

Date math isn't just counting days

"90 days from now" and "3 months from now" are not the same date. Months have different lengths, and that gap compounds with contracts, warranties, and deadlines. Use the date calculator to get the exact date — not a rough estimate that costs you later.

3

Words vs. characters for different platforms

Word count matters for academic writing and long-form content. Character count matters for social media, SMS, and metadata. The same passage can be 50 words but 310 characters. Check both when writing for any platform — they rarely enforce the same unit.
